The Pantheon & Spanish Steps

We had big plans for our second day in Rome. On our list was Rick Steve's "Caesar Shuffle." Where we would go from the Colosseum to the Forum, then over Capitoline Hill to the Pantheon. Then after we would join the locals for the "Dolce Vita Stroll" where we would stroll through the Piazza del Popolo to the Spanish Steps. It was a great plan, right?

Amy woke us up in a panic "It's 12pm you guys! Get up!"

We slept way past our original alarm clock & we were already running late. So we decided to change our plan a bit & head to the Pantheon. Then we would take it from there.

First, we needed espresso!
Then we headed toward the Pantheon! Obviously seeing beautiful things everywhere, another reason I LOVE Rome.
Once we arrived at the Pantheon I started to get really excited.
^ We knew we made it to the right place.

The Pantheon was a highlight for all of us on our trip. It is worth a spot on your itinerary if you're planning a trip to Rome.
The Pantheon was built to worship the Gods & has been used throughout history. It is one of the best-preserved buildings in Rome, built between 118-125 AD by Emperor Hadrian.
When you step into the Pantheon you can't help but to look up & around. The building is circular with one central opening for light that looks up into the sky. The granite columns are made from one sheet of stone, crazy right?
In the Pantheon you will also find the remains of Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto I, Margherita di SavoiaHigh & Renaissance artist Raphael.
After the Pantheon we stopped for much needed Gelato & Espresso. Amy got her Espresso to go which is really hard to find in Rome! They call this cup an "American Takeaway." In Rome they like to take their time & enjoy life.

We made our way to the Spanish Steps & strolled with the locals.
While we were at the Spanish Steps we witnessed a proposal! All of a sudden we heard music & people came out singing with balloons. Then sure enough a guy came out & got down on one knee!
After the Spanish Steps we went to a nearby restaurant to have a drink & take in the amazing atmosphere. We toasted to a great day in Rome! Our trip was off to a great start. This was just the beginning...
