Friday Favorites

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week. I know I've been busy with work & trying to get ready for my trip. Here are some of my favorite links from around the web to help you get through the rest of your day. Enjoy!

1. What 18 Extremely Successful People Were Doing at Age 25 (Business Insider)
Very interesting! I know it's hard growing up because we ALL go through different things to get us to where we are. I always question where I am going but sometimes it's best to just relax & enjoy. This article really helps put things into perspective!

2. Ad Agency Hires Intern Via Snapchat (Wall Street Journal)
My personal favorite! The story about how the advertising agency I work at & my team hired our current intern through Snapchat. This was such a fun project to work on & in the end we got our AWESOME intern, Max!

You all know how much I love Barre! I recently put my Classpass on hold until I get back from traveling so I will be doing this workout at home.

It's the weekend after all + Thanksgiving is right around the corner. It's the perfect excuse to try one of these yummy recipes!

Ireland 2007

In honor of #ThrowbackThursday & my upcoming trip with my sister, I wanted to share some photos from the first time we went abroad with our family. I came across these photos the other day when I was showing them to my friend at work. I even said, "these pictures don't live anywhere beside Facebook." That made me sad! I wanted to give them a second home & re-live this amazing trip. We haven't traveled abroad together since. Our trip in November is a real treat!

In 2007 our family went to Ireland & Paris. My uncle + his family were living in Ireland at the time which was the main reason for the visit. My aunt is a Foreign Service Officer for the State Department, which means they move a lot! We were super excited to visit them in Ireland! First stop was Belfast.

^^ Their home in Belfast was adorable!

^^ We went on the Troubles tour to see the political conflicts in Northern Ireland. It was a very eye opening experience & interesting to learn more about the history of Northern Ireland that I didn't know much about.

^^ We went to Newgrange, which was one of the highlights of the trip! Newgrange was built during the Neolithic period that makes it older than Stonehendge (very cool!) The site has different mounds that lead underground to interior chambers. Nobody really knows what the site was used for but it's speculated it was used for religious purposes. If you go to Ireland I highly recommend checking this out. We all LOVED it!

^^ Driving around we saw castle ruins. We got out of the car & walked around them. It's also gorgeous right on the water! (Sorry those pictures aren't great)

^^ My family decided to go on a road trip from the Northern part of Ireland down to the southern part & we ended up in Dingle. My Dad was a champ & learned how to drive on the right hand side of the road.

^^ We stopped in Dublin! We obviously had to check out the Guiness museum + enjoy one from the roof (best view!) Then we went to the Temple Bar, it's very famous.

^^ We stayed at Castle Durrow that was converted into a hotel. It was amazing! I wish I had more pictures of it. The food was also one of the highlights!

^^ My sister & I snuck off a couple of times. We loved the bars in Ireland! Everyone is so friendly no matter where you go! Don't be shocked if there is live music either.

Fork & Taco

The first Austin restaurant on our list of new places to try was Fork & Taco on Lamar. The neighborhood is fun, and the food was great!

I had the Beer-Braised Brisket taco, and the man had the Jerk-Dusted Chicken. We also shared some guacamole and chips.

The food was wonderful, but the best part about Fork & Taco was the service. We had the man's tired, 1-year-old niece with us, and one of the employees rushed her out some milk and anything else we needed to keep her happy and smiling.

Again, we are horrible at photos, but I'm working on that!

Try it out for yourself!

Austin Monthly Diner's Club

Last week after finding out that I passed the Texas Bar Exam (post to follow), a few friends and I headed out to Nest Modern in downtown Austin for the Austin Monthly Diner's Club.

It was fantastic to really get into the Austin scene. I have been so busy looking for jobs and getting situated, I haven't really had the chance to really do all of the things that make Austin so great.

It was a 50's-themed party featuring food and drinks from some of Austin's hottest new restaurants. I need to get back in the habit of taking pictures, but Austin Monthly took care of that for me too! Check the event out on Austin Monthly's Website.

The man and I have decided that we are going to limit eating out to restaurants that are new-to-us and mostly local Austin spots. Look for reviews to come!

Amber

A Day at the Museum

My friend Emily from Boston came to DC for a quick trip a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately I got a cold & felt under the weather by the time the weekend rolled around. So we decided to take it easy & headed to the mall to check out a couple of museums! It was a sunny day but it was FREEZING. A great excuse to hide out for a while!

Twenty-Somethings

We first started at the American History museum which is one of my favorites (read more about it here.)

After exploring some of my favorite exhibits (The Star Spangled Banner, Julia Childs Kitchen, The American Presidency etc.) we decided to go the National Gallery of Art.

Twenty-Somethings

This is one of my favorite places! The range of art that is housed here is truly amazing. But before we got to the art, I had to take Emily through what I like to call the "star tunnel."

Twenty-Somethings

Pretty cool. Right? I think so! After the tunnel we walked through the gorgeous courtyard to get to the galleries.

Twenty-Somethings

We saw one of my favorite sculptures by Degas "Little Dancer."

Twenty-Somethings

More Degas...

Then we wandered throughout the galleries.

It was the perfect day at the museum. If you're visiting DC I highly recommend stopping by the National Gallery of Art. It's definitely worth it!

I love this city & I will never get sick of being able to see these amazing galleries for free. Do you have a favorite museum?
